Hi, newbie here! i recently bought a 2000 stingray 180rs with the 3.0 Volvo penta. The boat will only run properly if I dump the gas out of the bowl of the fuel pump and then re start it. Then after that initial start it will die out at idle with a lot of grey colored smoke from the exhaust. I then dump the bowl of fuel pump again and it will restart and run perfect. Got me confused. Any advice?

That's pretty much impossible. You don't have the fuel inlet incorrectly connected to where the overflow is supposed to be connected do you? Not even sure if that's possible.

100% certain Everything is connected correctly. It has me stumped!! I replaced the overflow tube as well and it's completely dry inside the tube still. I didn't realize there shouldn't be fuel in the bowl where the filter lays. Now I'm even more confused lol

Hmmmm...I think I gave you wrong info. I was thinking that was the overflow glass bowl area. I just looked at the fuel pump on the Volvo site and that is the filter area. Sorry for confusing the issue.

If you dump out that bowl, then you are letting the float chamber go lower until the fuel pump filter area fills up again. So maybe, the carb's float level is too high.

Does the boat end up running rough and rich eventually again?

Ok, definitely makes since! I'm a newbie to carbs. So will refer to the seloc manual on how to readjust it. Thanks for your help so far, will update the situation and let you know. Hoping to be able to find Time to do it tomorrow. Have a good night!

And yes, after the first start once I dump the bowl it starts up and runs great! But the next start up it begins to idle rough I have to give a little throttle to keep running and if I start it a 3rd time it won't stay running unless almost WOT. I then have to dump the bowl again to restart.
