Yesterday, while starting our day to enjoy the great 4th of July Holiday, we went to dock the boat and could not get my shift control to go to Reverse and had to kill the motor in gear to stop boat. We eventually were able to get into nuetral but then it was stuck there and would not allow to go in gear either way. After some looking and trying numerous times, we finally were able to get into gear but it was very stiff in doing so. First thought was that the cable was kinking somewhere but could not notice anything there.
Once we were able to get into gear, the boat ran great as usual but was always afraid to put into nuetral until we were done fear that we would not be able to get in gear again. Anything suggestions with this? I would greatly appreciate any advice/assistance if you can.
Also, I ended up breaking the button on the shift control while we were messing with so I will need to replace that but that is/was not reason for the shifting issues.

Most likely a binding cable. Disconnect it from the drive and hold the cable by hand and have someone slowly shift the lever. If resistance can be felt at the control when you try to hold the cable from moving and when you don't hold it, then you need a new cable.

Revisiting this as I am replacing throttle cable and am having problems installing it to the control. Mainly which holes to use on the control

Broke down and took the boat to shop this afternoon. Summer is too short the way it is!
