Hello all,

I'm looking to replace my manifold and risers on the boat this year very soon - this is a volvo penta 3.0 with sx drive.

First thoughts to give it a go myself a competent DIY attempt, Ive carried out all the other maintenance so far, gimble bearing, oils, starter, water pump etc etc.

So, any thoughts or advice someone can give me as to the procedure and torquing everything up as it should?

This engine has the Holley carb sitting on top of the manifold I believe (not local to the boat) - will there be any problems with setting this back up?

Finally, there is quite a significant cost difference between OEM and aftermarket parts, we all want genuine volvo here but is it worth it?

The current manifold and risers are around 7 years old used in salt water so expecting some form of rust.

Thanks!

BARR is the casting house that makes the OEM castings. so get Barr, Volvo or Osco

just unbolting the carb and bolting it back on wont affect a thing. suggest a new gasket between the carb and manifold.

only advice:

righty-tighty lefty loosy on the bolts.

outer two mounting holes on the gaskets are slotted. this allows you to thread the two outer bolts, then drop the gasket in

Scott, thanks so much for your response, you make it sound so easy, is that really the case?

I just bought a 2004 Glastron with a Volvo Penta 3.0. Its been down here in the south (NC). First owner used it in fresh water, second owner used it in salt for the last 4 years only about 60 hours or so. Never stored in salt water on a trailer covered. No visible problems with manifold and riser. However, given its age several people said that the manifold and riser should be replaced. Thoughts? I'm taking it to VT and leaving it there so good winterization will be a key. Replace or leave it alone?

before throwing parts at it. have you pulled the manifold and elbow and inspected them? they may be fine, they may need minor maintenance, they may need replacing

This called hijacking an old thread.
