Hello everyone. I have learned alot from these forums and finally decided to sign up. Here is my prob. I have a 2001 Chaparral 180sse with 81 hours on it, which I purchased a couple of months ago. After putting about 10 hours on it it developed a very loud rattle noise which was coming from the bell housing area. Discovered flywheel was loose. All but one stud was all the way backed out. Repaired with new hardware and locktight and stuffed engine back in. Put about 7 more hours on boat and the loud rattle noise is back. Pulled starter and sure enough flywheel has about 1/4 play in it from side to side. There is no front to back play. Have not pulled engine yet to see if the nuts or studs are backing out. Does anyone know why this would be happening. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Volvo Penta 3.0 sx loose flywheel

Thanks for the responses. I was thinking the same thing. So my question is if the holes are wallored out then I need to replace the flywheel, correct. Does anyone know if this flywheel can be purchased thru a GM dealership or does if have to be purchased thru a marine dealer. Thanks again for any help.

also have 3.0 sx and had loose stud(s). Did one, ran it for a while, loud noise came back, found another one loose. Duh, took 'em all out and locktighted. That was 3 years ago, no probs since.
