Volvo penta 3.0gs in 97 larson flyer flywheel help!!!

my father in laws boat the flywheel studs came out. Just trying to see if anyone can guide me thru it. it has the 3.0gs with the sx outdrive. Need to see if i can just pull the outdrive to put in new studs with locktite and need torque settings also. Please help I need to get this done before he returns home from out of town in 7 days .

How do you know the flywheel studs cam out? The chances of that happening to all of them is
somewhere below 0.

What exactly is the problem that makes you think the flywheel studs came out?

He took it to a marine shop. paid for them to diag it. they did showed him one of the studs that was out and it didnt have loctite on it so im sure they all should be taken out and locktite put on. the reason why we didnt want to pay them is cause they were chargeing 10 hours labor when i have freetime to do it myself. plus you can grab flywheel and it moves back and fourth.

The engine has to come out, and the flywheel housing cover removed to get to the coupler, flywheel and the fastners. No other way.
Once the engine is out, things need inspected. When a stud is out, there is very little room in there for thing to fly around without damaging something.

ok well shop told me that everything else looked fine. On another note is there any repair manuals thats really what i need. you telling me the motor has to come out doesnt tell me what bolts come off and what other parts need to come off to get to pulling the motor out.

What is the full model number of your engine, or the serial number Year of the boat doesn't give that information, and the engine/drive may be a year older or newer.

Pull the drive off, then the motor out,.... How much Apart did the Shop take it apart,..??

Do ya have any Mechanicin' experience,..??

They put it almost all back together besides for some wires for starter and battery and they left the bottom flywheel cover off. And yes I have mechanical experience . Runs in my family but never taken on a boat. Sure it's not as bad as I think it's going to be.

3.0GSPLKD is your model number for future reference.

Go HERE, and download the engine manual. The last section is on engine removal. Also get the drive manual for they type drive you have. It explains how to remove and install the drive.
