hi im new here and am in need of expert advise!

i have a 3.0 gas/petrol 2003 ish engine that im having issues with, its in a glastron sx175 boat.

this year i have summerized the boat, (new oil, filters, etc) used the boat once and all was great, then a friend was driving as i was boarding, and used the kill cord accidently, this of course made the engine die. i tried to get the engine to fire again but to no avail! and in turn this somehow managed to sheer a bolt off the starter motor, i sorted that problem out and retried to start the engine and now it seems to labour a lot to turn the engine over wheras before it used to spin quite fast and start very easily, i have not yet checked that im getting a spark however when i took the plugs out the engine still turned over as laboured as before, i have replaced the starter for brand new as it was a little ropey last year so thought it would be a good idea to do this but it hasnt made a difference.

so... firstly will the engine still turn if i have a kill switch issue? and is there a way of checking if i have a kill switch issue,

there is also slightly too much oil in from the service could this not be helping things turn over well?

i also cant seem to turn flywheel by hand very easily im guessing this should be freeish?

is this a weird coincidence or do i have big problems? the boat was running perfect up until the kill cord was pulled.

ill thank you wizards in advance im sure someone out there can get me back doing what i love soon.

kind regards

J

The kill switch being pulled should have absolutely nothing to do with the starter problem.
You say you "sorted out the starter problem", exactly what does that mean? Different starter, or just fixed replaced the bolt?

The starter may need to be shimmed to move the gear away from the flywheel ring gear, or it may be a faulty starter. All the cables are tight and clean aren't they?

ah so what ur saying is possibly the starter is pushed up against the flywheel too tight? thus making it hard for it to spin? im pretty confident that the starter is a good one, i brought it from a recognised dealer, altho i do understand that there could be an issue, but my old one was doing the same, i just replaced it as it was very rusty etc,
i really appreciate your help Don s at least im slowly moving forward
