After a recent head gasket replacement I’ve been strugglig with setting the ignition timing. The engine sounds like it’s grinding metal, like not lubricated well too despite having brand new oil and a supplement of Murphy’s Miracle Oil in it. When I tried setting the total advance the engine appears to have burnt through the oil within a matter of about a minute at 2500 rpms. Now the engine squeaks on rotation, as if the grinding got worse. what could be the problem?
The pictures shows what the brand new oil looks like after about 10 minutes total run time.
I have not a compression check since finding the oil like this. I also am not convinced that the timing is set correctly as I haven’t been able to find specs that seem to work with my engine.
