New to the forum here, and having some odd issues. I'll try to be as clear as possible :)

I just purchased a 2001 Stingray 190LS, with the 4.3GL VP. This is my first I/O so this is all foreign to me. Only 80 original hours.

I test drove the boat, and everything worked great. Next day took it out, throttle handle was jamming, and the neutral button was stuck in. Ultimately had to get towed in.

Fixed that issue with a new shifter cable, and pulling apart the shift assembly. PITA, but now seems to be working.

Took it out the next day, fired up fine, shifted good, and drove around the lake for probably 5-10 minutes. Shut it down middle of the lake for 5 minutes or so. Started it again (fired right up), but when shifting into gear, the engine just died, like shutting off the key. Tried it 4-5 times to no avail. Let it sit a while longer, and eventually able to feather it into gear and get it going again. I did fail to run the blowers (again, new to the I/O thing), so I thought it may have been vapor lock, though didn't think it would happen that quickly....but what do I know.

Tried it again the next day to test my theory. Let it warm up in the water for 3-4 minutes. Shut the boat down just to run back to the car, came back and it wouldn't fire at all. (1-2 minutes later). I pulled it out of the water, brought it home, and fired it up with the muffs on, and fired perfect. Shut it down, and doesn't re-start.

This is leading me to believe there is maybe an issue with the carb, maybe a rebuild or just a good cleaning. Also reading about the neutral safety switch, but that seemed to function fine while I had the shifter assembly out.

Can anyone provide any thoughts?

Thanks!

Don't assume a fuel issue until you have proven that there is spark when the boat does not want to start.

Often when folks purchase a boat, they find out why it was for sale. So, even though the lake trial went OK, assume that the problem was there all along. Go through the basics . . . spark, fuel, compression.

So, far you have found a problem with the shifter, but don't just assume that the issue is fuel.

with any new to you boat, you need to go thru every system and do all the maintenance.

have you checked the content of the fuel filter? its a great diagnostic tool
check for spark
check for fuel at the carb
