Volvo Penta 4.3 PEFS/DPS drive pulling engine out

Can I remove this engine without pulling I/O drive out?
Regal 2660, twin V. Penta 4.3 Gi PEFS, drive Volvo DPS
I have done bellows job couple of times and noticed that drive slides out easily.
I would like to pull the engine out at my dock without hustle of towing the boat.
Famous Claymor manual is saying I have to pull the drive to pull the engine.
I have already disconnected everything and looks like back mounts are split to allow the engine to be moved forward.
Please, advice.

You need to pull the drive.

Even if you could remove the engine, you would have to have the drive removed to reinstall the engine because you need to check the alignment.

Thanks, I realize that. Right now I am pulling the engine out to inspect it and decide if can be rebuilt vs replaced.

Ayuh,.... You can try it, but ya risk bendin' things up,...

The motors are supposed to be lifted, Straight up, then out,...

Went up just fine. Could not be lifted straight up because of hatch design. Thanks.

You will need to pull the drive when you need to install.

Though it's not a recommended procedure, it's been done quite often.

Found broken exhaust valve, piston and large hole in the block. Time for new engine.
