Purchased a 2004 Glastron with the 4.3 Volvo penta and vx stern drive. Installed the battery and found some misc wiring laying in the back.
also found the PO replaced the starter with one that only has three terminals vs 4 terminals.
so I’ve got a cut or broken purple wire coming from what appears to be the main harness from the key switch. The purple wire is unhooked from the starter as there is not terminal to hook it to.
ive got a small black wire with the purple wire that has a female spade on it.
I can get some pictures of said wiring in the daylight.
Anyone have any insight?
Only paid $2000! engine and out drive are in good shape just needs a little TLC

first, welcome aboard

look at the factory wiring schematic in the factory manual

purple is ignition.

your starter should be using 2 or 3 terminals. the B terminal goes to the battery. the S terminal should have a yellow wire with a red stripe (start signal), and I believe the purple wire should go to the I/R terminal on the starter. I believe that is the fuel pump feed for when cranking. however check the wiring harness first.

Thanks for the reply. You are right it only has 2 terminals. The B terminal, and the S terminal. missing the I/R terminal.

Purchased a new marine starter. Installed and hooked up I/R purple wire. Attempted to start and would get nothing. Hooked random purple wire sitting near battery to battery positive and engine starts but has no tach and won’t shut off unless I unplug the purple wire off battery positive. I get continuity through the purple wire on the starter and the one I have connected to battery positive so I imagine this shouldn’t be connected straight to the battery.
found very little on the wiring diagram. Any direction to look from here?
