I have a 2002 Glastron GX205 with a 5.0 GL-B motor (carbureted). The boat has always ran fantastic, she has 426 hours on her.. I had the 2 barrel carb rebuilt by a local boat mechanic, and the last 2 trips she has ran flawless. However my last trip out to Lake Mohave, after she sat for a bit at camp, I would push her off, fire her up, and she would idle great, lower the trim, engage the prop, she would begin to pull, then stall... I let her set for 10 to 15 seconds, and she would fire right back up again, and run just fine... This has never happened before, and I was hoping a few of you very smart guys could help me out with where to look...

Will do, that is a cheap enough part.. I did replace it at the end of last season however.. But I will give it a go.

Well I finally had time to take my boat out again.. Before heading out I picked up a new filter and fuel pump just in case. I drove the boat, for 5 days, 3 tanks of fuel, and not a single stalling issue, not even a miss or hesitation..

I am going to replace both anyway, since the fuel pump is 14 years old just for the piece of mind....

Just wanted to get back to ya'all..

So I went to Lake Mohave for 6 days, just got home.. My stalling issue is back.. 2 times it stalled, and once it loaded up but cleared out, than accelerated good.
It only happens after idle when transitioning to mid throttle getting on plane.

I still run the Holley 2 barrel, and I think the float level may be to high... Thoughts??

Note:: I replaced the low pressure fuel pump, fuel filter, and verified the vent tube is clear, PRIOR to the recent problems. When I wiped my boat down after pulling her from the water, the transom was black.. Which is a sure sign of running rich..

Where are all the smart people????

So my Holley 2 barrel does NOT have the adjustable needle and seat.. I know Dellorto carbs, I know Weber carbs, and I know Edelbrock carbs.. I know NOTHING about Holleys..

Where the typical air/fuel mixture screws are on the metering block, mine appear to be plugged.. Is that typical of a marine carb??

So I have decided to switch carbs all together.. Instead of trying to re-dial in a carb I want to swap out, I figure its time to pull the trigger.

So I am going to install an Edelbrock 600cfm 4 barrel with the proper .850 carb spacer. I have been reading several posts that it makes a decent enough difference to make the plunge.. I will report back after the install....

Ayuh,..... Is yer manifold like many Volvos, a 4bbl. manifold, adapted to a 2bbl. carb,..??..??

Why do ya need the spacer,..??

I like the Edlebrock/ Merc/ Weber/ Carter AFB clone carbs,.....

Donno much at all 'bout Holleys,...

All the forums I have read have said the 4bbl's work better, with the spacer. Even the stock 2bbl has a spacer. I personally prefer the Edelbrock over the Holley any day of the week.. just my $.02

Installed the carb and spacer last night... I must say Volvo Penta made this 5.0 4bbrl carb friendly.. a 4 bbrl aluminum dual plane manifold, simply turn the throttle cable mounting bracket around and it has the holes already there for the throttle cable mounting block, the throttle linkage from my Holley 2 bbrl was a direct fit to the Edelbrock carb, no messing or fabbing linkage. she fired right up..... Minor air/fuel & idle adjustment and WOW!!!!! At least on the trailer there is a noticeable difference in how she sounds. Cant wait to put her in the water..........

So I had an opportunity to take my boat out over the 4th of July. Defiantly a performance pick up with the 4bbl Edelbrock 600cfm carb. picked up 4 to 5mph approximately and can now pull 4800RPM. I am running a 4 blade Stiletto SS prop. I will switch it to my Michigan Wheel 3 blade aluminum next and see if I can pick up even more.

No stalling at all, defiantly worth every penny..
