Iam almost sure by reading other post but wanted to run it by those who may have has the issue and/or the experts.

I have a 2003 chaparral sunesta 243 with a volvo penta 5.0 gxi engine (Was replaced last year with the same engine intact and was the 5.0 gxi-c) yes it came with the ecm for this model and used the same harness.

everything seems to run fine last summer well mostly at the end of the summer i did notice a stall when it came off plane quickly but it would start right back up and on the way we went.

Just took it out for the first time yesterday and the wife and i had it on the lake for a few hours without any issue then we had 4 other adults and a dog join us and the problem started the water was choppy and it started to stall it seems to run fine at 3000 RPMs with a stall hear and there when it was real choppy.

we were anchored most the day and decided to call it a day, it started right up we were on the way back and a massive chop hit us and it stalled out. I check the plugs and one side has a little water and steam when the plugs were pulled but would not start back up.

got a tow and this morning it started right up so i conned the hose to it as this model has the flush out / run connector for the hose and it stalled soon after.

No water in the oil
No white smoke
No fuel in the oil or water
Water runs out through the outboard without issue.
No over heating
this engine has 8 hours on it.

So here my thought the engine that was used in the training at volvo and only had 1 hour on it and they moved everything to a new location and they would crank it every now and again according to the training sheets on when someone who test out on the engine and what was done.

that being said the engine is still 6 to 8 years old and the exhaust manifolds and risers are that old as well and done know it it was flushed each time or not.

So i would think that one of a few things.

1 the exhaust manifolds are corroded inside and need replacing
2 the exhaust risers may need to be replaced ?
3 the gaskets are needing to be replaced.

I look for any guidance on the direction to take first

Thanks in advance

VP says we don't need no stinking exhaust flappers, but yes they do in certain cases

Do agree with you, I would say you have exhaust issues, and would even say that if you have the room, add a 3 inch riser to raise the elbows and tad higher when you have more aboard and the chop is bad

What would be a good 3 inch extension that would fit with the correct bolts?
Looks like it will be tight when bolting down but looks like it could work.
