I have been reading alot of the historical V-P rough idle posts but haven't found one like mine yet. Hate to have this as a fist post but hopefully I can find out what is causing my problem. Engine is a 2003, currently with 130 hours, bought it with 40 and has been stored for a year and a half. While running at cruise/open throttle no problems. While idling and trolling, engine runs good for a while then starts to sputter, and then idle/speed increases, then will settle down again. I treated fuel with a conditionere "starbrite" and thought it might be the fuel filter. I have changed it several times. Thinking it could be water in the fuel. Also at times there was a loud whining noise coming from the engine I don't know if this could be related to the idling/speed problem. The mechanic I bring the boat to said, they had just replaced the fuel pump on the same engine and stated he thought mine might have to be replaced (I don't know what led him to say that) because of the ethanol fuel. I will be taking the boat out and examining the fuel today THX ahead of time.
