VOLVO PENTA 5.0Gi engine stalls on idle speed | fuel gauge bouncing

I just purchased a 99 Four Winns Horizon 220 with a VOLVO PENTA 5.0Gi PWTR\ SX-M. Engine runs pretty good but lately it's been stalling when I when throttle fwd/rev while docking.
I also noticed that the gas gauge bounces around when the engine is cold. It even triggers the low gas light sensor while having a full tank. It eventually stabilizes so I don't think it's related. Anybody have these issues?

Gas gauge..more than probalby just old. But on a boat that old it would be a good idea to clean all of your contact points (electrical) from top bottom..aka battery terminal's.. altenator terminal...gauge terminals...fuel pump relays...power bus bar (fuses panel) and all the sender's on the block.

Assumning you have a tbi system remove the flame arrestor start the engine and shine a neon light on your injectors. They should display a nice smooth conical spray pattern ..if its broken heavy or shows drip's the injectors need to be cleaned. Google witch hunter injectors good service and great pricing.

I have the same problem with the same motor as above... We have replaced:
cap
rotor
plugs
wires
coil
starter

cleaned all terminals etc...the engine still is hard to start and will not idle.
We thought we had an exhaust blockage-- cleaned it out and still no change...any help is appreciated-

Start a new thread but for now check your injectors. they are old.... used in a marine enviroment and the use of alcohol in gas as a percentage is higher now than it ever has been in history...which tends to clean the fuel system from years of build up..Take a neon light while your motor is running and shine it on your injectors. They should appear to have a nice conical spray pattern with no drip's..if the pattern is irregularor dripping have them cleaned.

It does not take much to clogg them up there automotive by design.. very large for the motor size and work under low pressure.

I just went through a similar situation with my 2004 engine. After replacing everything i thought it could be, it ended up being too much water in the fuel and/or ethanol in the fuel. I purchased a bottle of Star Brite Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Cleaner (could use STA-BIL too i suppose) and the problem has been cleared up. I too was having poor performance and motor would shut off on idle. Once you use the fuel additive give it a few and then take her out to slush around the fuel and the additive. Eventually you should be back to normal.
