the sharder valve in a compression gauge has such low resitance, compression would rather go to the gauge then out the exhaust.
LOL....ok...whatever!

BTW, whoever wrote that on that misterfixit page you posted probably didn't pay attention in his chemistry or physics class.

He was only quoting more idiots in the profession. Googling, "iATN is the world's first and largest online community of automotive professionals, where automotive technicians and other auto industry pros perform real-world." I'm sorry that Detroit diesel doesn't believe cranking compression as a reliable test compared to running compression. You should sub contract for them, straighten them up hahahaha

When someone says that compressing air in an engine 8:1 is going to yield a pressure that is only 8 times the original pressure, you know they shouldn't be listened to. Do you happen to believe that too? LOL

We can waste more time and argue current flow, in the automotive world its positive to negative. Everywhere else its negative to positive. The fact of the matter is u are arguing about semantics and hypothetical readings. If you knew engine as well as you imply you would know that cranking speed, worn valves causing valve spring height to be off and hydraulic lifters causing lifters to not have as much force then when they are pumped up from a running engine. There is also a reason you have to go back and edit your post each time you reply.......

All I know, is that the OP better not pull heads on an engine that has over 180PSI cylinder pressure. That would be incredibly dumb. He has no issues at idle or running past idle.
