Hi all, new to this forum, saw over on BD forums that that there is lots of good advice given here form knowledgeable people.
I have twin 5.7 Volvo Pentas, 1996-1997 engines. Looking to purchase closed cooling systems but seem to be having difficulty finding complete systems or websites that have good descriptions of what's all included, pricing is all over the place, some sites say no longer available, called a few companies out of state (I'm in SoCal) and the guys on the phone either were short with answers, had to look into what they could get or said that they no longer had them. Pretty frustrating.
Anyone have a lead to where I can buy a good half system? Like a legit place to go? I've just had the engines rebuilt and want to get the systems on them prior to reinstalling them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

welcome aboard

orca, formerly san juan engineering has kits.

your local VP dealer can get you the parts and you can assemble a kit yourself too.

I would try to go to a full system (rather than a half system) if you are going to run in the ocean.

Also, those are pretty old engines . . . Currently an open cooling system? Have they been 100% fresh water? If not then you might have too much rust scale in the cooling passages to have a reliable closed system.

My buddy owns a wrecking yard. I bought two complete running engines out of low mile trucks. Sent them out and had them built. Scrapped the old salt water engines.
And as Scott said, the plates on the risers are restrictive in VP full system & will be a source of possible failure, so I want to stick with half systems. I’ll just replace exhaust manifolds & risers annually as part of maintenance. But block, heads & intake will stay good.

I’m calling Orca tomorrow to see my options, but last guy I talked to was kind of an ass, like he didn’t have time to help me figure out what I needed. As a GM at a petroleum company, I’d be pissed at my guys if they treated a customer like they did to me. But maybe he just had a bad day? I’m all about second attempts.

These are 355ci engines, forged pistons, hydraulic roller cams, roller tip rickets, forged cranks. 355hp @ 5500rpm each on dyno. These were specifically built as marine engines to achieve my goal of super reliable engines for my SkipJack. 278hp @ 2500rpm for cruising speed.
I’ve powde coated intake and valve covers since picking up from builder.
