I recently bought a 2001 Galaxie LX has a Volvo Penta 5.7GS PEFS (1999-2000) I took it out for a test run and it totally over heated melting the rubber bellow. I changed out the impeller today only one tooth was missing I thought it would be much worse. I am not very experienced with boat engines and have no manual. Any other suggestions would be great.

Very well could be just that impeller with that piece missing it could have been cavitating the water in the pump housing and not sucking up water or pushing it into motor. Have you ran it before and not overheated or is this the first time you have had it out since you bought it? Throw it in the water let it run for awhile watch your temp gauge. If the ramps not busy i would'nt even take it of the trailer till knew the temp went up and evened off at operating temp

Look for the missing piece. It is most likely lodged in the system. You should also replace the exhaust rubber parts
