Hi,
Have had this boat since new (2000), engine always ran at about 170. Three years ago i shredded the raw water pump impeller out in the middle of Georgian Bay ... was able to limp home running at 1800 RPM, with eingine temp at about 190. I had the Marina replace the impeller, and ever since, the engine temp won't get above 120. Likley just a coincidence that i started having this problem after the impeler was replaced, but just want to lay all the facts out :). I replaced the thermostat 2 years ago ... didn't make any differrence. 2 weeks ago i put a IR gun on the engine to confirm gauge and sender are operating correctly ... got approx. same temp readings that gauge shows. So i was thinking i must just have a defective thermostat. This weekend i put in another new 160 degree thermo, water tested ... no difference ... Engine temp will run up to 160 degrees at idle at dock. As soon as you power up, temp drops quickly to 115 -120 degrees, and stays there. Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

Thanks,
Gord

Thanks, this helps. I had thought of this too ... when i had the thermo housing off yesterday, i looked to see if there was any debree blocking the passages. But hard to see into that little bypass port ... i will remove the brass elbow and get a better look. Thanks again.
