I've just changed my worn serpentine belt and now the engine (5.7 volvo penta is fitted in by Regal 2250) is running lumpy then cuts out. The engine is also making a wining sound.
The old belt was pretty worn and had started breaking up, it came off quite a few times so I decided to fit the new one myself. I put the new belt on and had to disconnect the water pump bracket and hoses. After I put the new belt on the belt immediately came off on starting the engine. I put this down to my error of not having it sat on all the pulleys square, I re-fitted the belt and it stays on but the engine isn't running good at all, it runs at tickover very lumpy and cuts out after 30 seconds or so. It sounds like the timing is out or something. A friend suggested the belt could have hit the crank angle sensor and damaged it although I can't see that the volvo penta has one.
