1990 Volvo Penta believed to be a "500", does have Rochester 2 barrel (17059059) w/ new electric choke, and new vacuum pulloff. Has SP-A CD Trim outdrive. Carb has been overhauled to cure hard starting. Starts almost instantly when cold WITHOUT having to pump. The problem: after a long moderate speed run, engine will stall backing throttle down to either get into neutral or reverse. Am lead to believe this does NOT have a shift interrupter switch (if it does, where is it??). Any ideas as to what is causing the stall??

The electric choke may not be working. If the engine is warm, the choke plate should be all the way open. If the choke plate is closed, the engine will vapor lock, and won't start. Have a buddy check to make sure the choke remains open while the boat is being started. Make sure they don't put their face directly over the carburetor in case of backfire through carb.

Electric choke is new and working fine. Vacuum pull off is new and working fine. Problem was traced to a cracked float which had just been replaced.
