hi all,
I have a 2000 cobalt 246 with Volvo Penta 7.4 Gi. Ran fine two weeks ago. Started out for boat ride last night...started fine, ideled fine, ran fine for about 1/4 mile then began sputtering. Brought it back in let it sit a few minutes and then tried again...same result. Ran fine for a little bit then started cutting out.

would this be spark plug/distributor/rotary related or would this be fuel filter fuel pump related....or something else entirely
thanks

Check for spark
check for fuel pressure
Check for water in the fuel

What happens when its sputtering if you give or more or less throttle?

Sputters worse with more throttle once it starts sputtering

Sounds like its not getting enough fuel. I would check fuel pump pressure. You have two pumps and low and a high pressure. The low pressure keeps the tank full and the high pressure supplies to injectors

Low pressure above the fuel filter
High pressure inside a tank

Don't know which Gi you have to determine fuel pressuers
