Volvo Penta 7.4GI trim sending unit question

Being a newbie, I suppose I should've asked only one question in my first post in the hope of getting an answer. Here it goes: Boat is a 1997 Cobalt 252 with a Volvo Penta 7.4GIPLKDCE (have M, T and OD serial nrs but not sure which one to post). Pulled boat out of the lake to test new bunk settings on trailer. Inspected stern drive and found various problems.

The Trim Sending Unit has a black wire which is severly frayed from rubbing on housing. Wire has the appearance of a co-axial cable. Does this require replacing the complete Trim Sending Unit? What is procedure? The wire disappears somewhere into/through the transom housing. Or is there a connector, not readily visible? The SELOC Vovo Penta reapir manual is not clear on how to replace ... They talk about some "special" tool that is needed ...

What else should I consider replacing while in there? Gimbal lube nipple? Gimball bearing? Hoses? Bellows?

Thank you!

That is because Seloc is an aftermarket money maker for Seloc, not designed to give enough information to fix anything, but it looks impressive .............. at first glance. Here is a link to download the OEM service manuals for free, only for you LK model.
Just download the ones you need.

Not really sure about the co-axial cable part. But if the wires are frayed, and you plan on replacing it, here is how to replace it.
It's just information from the manuals I put together all in one file.

Excellent! Thank you Don S. for sharing. Can you share the Volvo Penta part number for the trim sending unit? The VolvoPentaStore.com is limited and I haven't found another on-line resource for OEM Volvo Penta parts.

Re: Volvo Penta 7.4GI trim sending unit question

So far I have 3 different p/n's for the trim sending unit:
- 3863007 (Don S. recommends this one)
- 3849411 (Cobalt dlr recommends this one ...)
- 3849413 (... or this one)

Dlr claims that the only difference between them is 2-wire vs. 3-wire. 3rd wire is for trim limiting switch, which I don't have. They recommend to tie it off and not use 3rd wire. Biggest difference is the price between these units. Which one is the correct one?

Engine s/n: 4110141709
Transm s/n: 4111553444
OD s/n: 4112026411
