Volvo Penta 8.1 Gi-EF starving for fuel at high rpm?

I have a 2002 Cobalt 263 with a 8.1 DP that starts fine and will run all day under 2800 RPM. When you give it full throttle it will run up to somewhere between 4000-4500 rpm for a short amount of time (30 seconds or less) then start to sputter and slow back down to under 2800 rpm where it will run just fine if you back off the throttle.

The high pressure fuel pump was replaced a month ago, it was suggested I check the anti-siphon valve and I temporarily replaced it with a straight valve with no change.

Any other ideas?

Serial #401210622 (It was replaced about a year after the original purchase of the boat under warranty by V/P)

The next step I would take is to check both the low and high fuel systems pressure while running. If the low pump is bad the reservoir that feeds the high pressure pump will empty and starve the high pressure of fuel.

After much troubleshooting it turned out to be an issue where the coating on the inside of the fuel pump assembly was breaking down and fowling the pumps as it was after the filter. Replacing the whole assembly fixed the problem.
