Volvo Penta AQ 145A pushing water past the strainer cap on high revs

Hi - can anybody help with this problem.

The boat is a 1984 Fairline weekender and otherwise the engine is running well - not overheating at all, but is chucking out water from the strainer cap from 2000rpm upwards. Heat exchanger seems to be working fine but there seems nowhere for the raw cooling water to go after the heat exchanger. Is this a common fault?
Fresh water side of the system seems to be working well though.

I have greased the strainer cap lid as recommended but still.

Any ideas folks???

Raw water discharges through the manifold make sure it is clear at the nipple, could also be the tubes in the heat exchanger that are plugged. Something is preventing it escaping, rust in the manifold can also create a restriction along with the rubber bellows not being positioned correctly.

The strainer is on the intake (suction) side of the system located close to the thru hull. Having said that, it should be sealed, and if the strainer is leaking it would be allowing air into the system (not good). Most strainers have a gasket or O-ring to seal the cover. Check that the cover is on straight, and the gasket or seal is in good condition.

Welcome, help us by filling out the profile, location.
Could be as simple as needing a new cap.
Or the heat exchanger is clogged or the manifold is clogged.
You motors 29 and not knowing the repair history??manifold replaced?heat exchanger replaced?
The Volvo manifold can last 10-20 years depending on use.
The heat exchanger the same.
Also depending on the amount of sand you pick up or mud you run through??
The exchanger, it can be back flushed and even acid dipped.A radiator shop is your best bet for that.
The manifold, loosen the bolts and the rubber boot.
Check for corrosion/crud/rust around the end.
