I have a boat with an AQ 280E drive fitted....it has a mechanical trim indicator driven by a Morse Teleflex cable from the drive.....but its not indicating so Im assuming the cable has broken

Im not with the boat at the moment but would like some advance help on finding where the cable connects to the drive

also from what Ive read it seems unusual to have this type of indicator unless its peculiar to the 280E

The 280 is the drive.
They didn't make a AQ280 motor.
A 260/271/290/311 and more.
The trim on most was through a system on the helmet.
An electric sensor sent a signal to the dash.
Post some pics of your system.

I didn't mention the engine... just the AQ280E drive as specified here...

http://www.volvopenta.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/Penta/Misc/drive_2_oil_rec_7745608.pdf

however when I checked through the workshop manual as specified here...

http://www.marinemechanic.com/volvo/volvo penta workshop manual.pdf

There are no specific 280E details mentioned in it..... The reference I could find to trim indicators was in connection with the generic electro sensing system you mention.....which is not how my indicator works.....its simply a Morse Teleflex cable connected to somewhere on the drive (I cant see it) and a mechanical indicator needle on my dash...... ( Which is the thing on the dash seen vertically above the drive engagement in the pic) ....

Unless there is a mechanical indicator option it would seem what I have must be some kind of custom fitted indicator device......clearly I will have to track the Teleflex cable to both ends when Im next home.

The " AQ" pertains to the motor.
The 280 is the drive.
The 260 came in A and B and the drives/transmissions are a part of the motor section.
What year?
You probably have an aftermarket setup???

When you can post pics of the drive, close ups of the helmet.

I'd like to see pics of the boat too.
Good luck,J

I stand corrected.....280E it is

pics of boat I have with me but nothing close up of helmet....though now you have me thinking and Im sure the Teleflex must be linked to the rack and pinion trim gear under it.....cant be invisible so I will have a good look when I get back to UK

As I got her after 15 years stored in a shed

Very cool boat !
Lots of aftermarket there, steering, no helmet , not to mention the engine :)
I wonder how rare even a stock 280E is? I have never seen one, or if I did I didn't know what I was looking at. Unique lower unit with something like 1:45 ratio?

sorry I cant be more helpful with info but im 2000 miles from boat for next few months and was hoping my son could get this done while I was away if it was going to be obvious but then I guess it should just be a case of following the Teleflex to each end
