volvo penta aq125 strainer housing bypass

hey guys newbe here is there any way to bypass the the strainer housing mine broke twice where the cap gos on and i dont want to spend another 175.00 for one i was told by a volvo mechanic that he has seen people bypass the unit but didnt know how or want to tell me how have you seen this before?

I dont think you want to bypass it, as its there for a reason, to strain water. If I remember right the housing is cast alum, so you may be able to get it welded.

If you happen to know a machinist, you could get some adapters made to use 3/4 inch hose and an in line strainer somehow.
My strainer has seen better days, and I'm thinking I'll have to get creative.
Like you said, there has to be a less expensive method that works as well.
