bought a boat and had to put back the starter after it was rebuilt and they did not mark the wires , I know the basics with the red on positives but this solenoid has slide connectors not post for the other wires , there is the places for the 3 wires , white from wire harness , yellow from distributor and another red that comes of the main positive on the solenoid that looks to go in 1 of those spots, tried really hard to find diagrams and my manual is just not detailed for specifics apparently and always come to this forum as you are all great help. I thank you in advance for any help to solve my problem.

Adjustment on problem yellow comes from the coil not the distributor mistyped , and they are slide on connector posts not with the bolts like I'm use to

tried to go by the schematic and got the engine to turn over but the solenoid is sticking and have to disconnect the battery to stop it and from what I have read that its most likely a ignition switch? , as the starter was just rebuilt and I bench tested it as well and it was not sticking then either. what else might cause this?

I am no expert, but we are leading parallel lives right now as I just replaced my starter and am on the forum looking for info. You can put a voltmeter on the solenoid switch input and have someone turn the key and you can read how much voltage is at the switch. Alternatively you can "jump" 12V from the solenoid main post to the switch input with the key off (this trick is often done with a screwdriver but most places tell you to use a jumper wire) If the starter operates normally you know that if it was getting enough voltage at the switch it works. Now you have to figure out why you don't have voltage at switch?
