Put new spark plug wires on because old ones were shocking me and boat would die if I hit a wake. So I Went out today everything seemed to work flawlessly except when I was cruising at 2900rpm I tried to give it more throttle and it bogged down and died. Start back up idled slowly gave it gas and it was at 3300rpm same thing bogged down 1000rpm. Any ideas?

Hi, there, Just some ideas is all but you may want to try checking the spark plugs to if maybe they are fuel fouled due to inadequate spark from the bad plug wires....If you haven't already, you may as well replace the spark plugs as a full tune-up may be necessary such as the distributor cap and rotor too.

Bear in mind that failed spark plug wires can lead to a failing ignition coil under load too. Did you replace the coil wire (and boot) to the distributor cap?

If ignition spark appears to be all good under load then you may have a fuel delivery problem.

Quick way to check for adequate/continuous spark is connect a timing light up to first the coil wire then to each plug wire during the event under load.

Hope it's an easy one for you, good luck.:)

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem.
Clogged filter, water in the fuel?
Possible coil's failing? Put your finger on it after the motors gotten to temp.
If you can't keep your fingers on it? then it's bad.

I changed fuel water seperater last week. It had tiny rust particles. I will do the coil test next time I'm out. Thanks.

pull the top of the carb, I bet a bunch of the tiny rust particles have taken residence in the fuel bowl and had a party

If it were my engine, I would get this working first with the present distributor even if it takes changing the points first. Why introduce a second set of variables to the equation?

That is of course unless you are changing to a new distributor like a Delco Voyager.
