volvo penta aqad41 starter problem

Hi 1988 200hp penta diesel had starting problems with engaging, all batteries checked ok just bought new starter with out success will not turn engine although starter is spinning checked with dealer as upgraded starter has more teeth on gear but advised that these are angled to give more power anyone else suffered this or ideas on the problem!! engine had been running sweet checked no water in oil etc but really confused now cheers

Just to make sure, you installed a new starter and the starter will spin but it does not turn the motor over, correct?

If this is the case, check your fly wheel teeth to see if any are missing.
The motor was running great and then it was not. What happened? Was it shut down and then not start or something else. If motor will not crank over there may be some water injected through the exhaust
