I have a 1984 Bayliner Capri with a Volvo Pents outdrive. I noticed a hole in the uppper bellow (shaft). Any suggestions on how to best go about replacing? Do I have to remove the entire outdrive?

No, you do not have to remove the complete drive. Only the upper gear box.
Here is a thread that covers it. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=309095

Of course, you may have water in your flywheel housing bearings that will require an engine pull, and maybe some drive work if the seal surface on the input shaft is rusty and grinding down your seal.

Pictures would help, along with knowing engine and drive model numbers for more accurate info.
