A lot of these carrier bearings will not come out period. I have found over the years that you can stop the shaft seal leak and or the o ring leak in the rear by mixing LUCAS (ONLY LUCAS) power steering stop leak with the lower unit oil. I mix half a bottle with the 2 qt oil pump container. Then I remove the prop, clean the shaft around the prop shaft seal(use only dawn and warm water) Then with the drive tilted up put two or three drops of the lucas around the shaft so it hits the top of the seal. then turn the shaft clockwise and counter clockwise. Do this about ten times over a three hour period. I guarantee you this Lucas will stop the leaks. It will work for years. I have used it to stop a shaft leak on an antique shower valve in my house, stopped leaks on the large o rings in Case tractor brakes, trim cylinder leaks and so many others over the years I have forgotten. This stuff is incredible and works right in with the oil and is a lubricant also. It of course will not work on damaged seals or o rings but if they are just old and hard it will turn them into new within literally minutes.
