I have a new to me boat with a 97 AD41 diesel with a 3888312 control head.
The control head has a nuetral Detent naturally and when pushing fwd, it moves a
couple inches then another detent before giving any throttle. The same in reverse?
Makes it very confusing when docking or close qtrs handling. My last couple boats both had Morse controls with one detent only. Can this be adjusted out?
Hope I have this in the right forum.
I plead ignorance if not.
Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

That is how single lever controls work, and are designed. You can change to the two lever style if you want to.

Ok Don thank you for your reply
Obviously if that is the way it is, that is the way it is? I sure wish the detents were not so stiff it takes a pretty good push to get by them.
Now this control is brand new so hopefully it will smooth out, and i will get used to it.
I would love to change to a twin lever Morse but not for an additional $300
Thank you.

You probably have bad cables, not a bad control. Remove the cables from the control and shift it. If it's smooth, replace the cables.
