And i dont understand why my thread got moved... Clearly Disassembling the engine and keeping the parts usable.. is part of REPAIR. not non-repair... i may be wrong.. but just wondering

As a tip... Don't get into a beef with a Moderator in the forum's. PM the mods directly with forum posting questions (per forum rules), and you will remain an upstanding citizen of Iboats.... ;)

And yes WD-40 is the perfect candidate for this job, as that is it's original intended purpose (WD stands for Water displacing, originally developed to keep bombs bright and shiny for the gov't).

Thank you for the information. And i am not trying to get into a beef with the moderators. I would at least like a warning post so i would get a message in my email saying the post was moved.. because after it was move I didnt get any more emails if someone posted to my post. but thank you for letting me know sir.

And how long will the WD-40 last on the parts? do i have to put them in Ziplock bags after i spray them ? to keep them more protected?

Ayuh,.... Just how Long do ya plan on storin' these parts for,..??

Long term, I'd go to a spray grease, like PB Blaster's version of the stuff...
Drawback is, ya gotta reclean 'em....

Speakin' of Cleanin',....
Get yerself a gallon of kerosene, or diesel fuel, or home heatin' oil...
It works good, 'n ain't so flammable, 'n noxious as brake clean...
Way cheaper too,...
Oh, 'n a stiff bristle brush....

I've been a fan of Cosmoline - Lubricating Oil and water displacement for a long time. http://www.cosmolinedirect.com/ I've stored parts for a year or more with great success but as you said, the pats have to be recleaned.

Ayuh,... That's because yer 1 of those Redneck Gun Nuts,.... :D

I was gonna say cosmoline, but just used some a what I mentioned,.... ;)

Really! i heard a mechanic talk about it one time, he mixes kerosene with some diesel fuel and cleans it!! does it really work that well?
So if i do that i put kerosene in a plastic tub, and put the part in there (say the bellhousing, or springs, and such) than after i brush it with stiff brush do i have to wash it off with water? or let it air dry or blow it off with air? and after doing so is when i would cover it in the pb blast or the cosmoline right? please let me know i wanna have this down to a science so when i do my next engine rebuild (and you can bet on it this wont be my first one) i know what i am doing? Thank you. and Bond-o i will be keeping these parts until my head comes back from cleaning which is this friday... but when the springs and valves are added back on to the head and assembled i wont be assembling engine until i send block out for machining... let me know thank you kindly. -vlad
