Volvo Penta EVC System Issue

I have a Chaparral 330 Signature with Twin 5.7 L Recently when cruising at 3800 rpm I got an alarm and my display read "High Exhaust Tempature". I slowed down to idle speed and the temperature returned to normal. I contacted a local Volvo service marina, and was told the problem was likely a bad sensor and that the part is currently out of stock with Volvo. After two weeks I am still waiting on parts. Anyone have a similar experience? Any insight would be very useful.
