Volvo Penta FI 351 Windsor no water flow for 2.5 mins.

Hello,

VP SX-C1 1.66 prod. no. 3868395 Serial # 4112018910 Engine VP FI 351 windsor. Replaced the impeller in the RWP (pump operates off pulley in engine compartment) old impeller has all vanes intact. Water applied through double hose muffs (full house pressure) no water expelled for 2.5 mins then hot water exits outdrive. Looking over past posts i see the air leak may be from a cracked/worn bushing or seal where a tube connects below. Any one have a link to an exploded view or know where to look? Does the outdrive need to be removed to access the connection? Am I on the right track? any Ideas?

Do you have water getting to the thermostat housing while on muffs? You also need plenty of water flow and pressure on the muffs or it won't pick up.

Hello Don,

I did not mention that the engine has fresh water cooling correct me if wrong but, only the exhaust & heat exchanger get the sea water and the thermostat is in the coolant system.? I noticed before that the water exited almost instantly well 10 secs. This boat sat for 6 months. After changing the impeller I took the boat out and ran at full speed (42knots) for 15 mins and the temp stayed cool so I again tried the muffs same thing dry hot exhaust 2.5 mins. then water. I think it is sucking air on the hose. The muffs are in great condition and house pressure is strong (always worked good before).

Sorry for the late update, I damaged my flipper (rotator cuff). Anyhow it turned ouy to be a combination of 1995 upper & lower grommets on the 1" copper up tube that had dried up and cracked, and theP1011839.jpgP1011840.jpgP1011841.jpg raw water pump. used the volvo paper you sent Don....Thanks again.....
