Not sure where to put this question but i have a 2006 18ft. Crowline 180 br 4.3 volvo penta SX-M1 drive that i am having a heck of a time getting proped right. Ive tested everything and tach, engine, and speedometer all work as it should.
Heres my question has anyone ever heard of a 1.43 gear ratio in a 18ft. boat with a 4.3 v6? Everything i can find says i should have a 1.6 or 1.8 gear ratio. with a boat load boat severly struggles to get on plane. Is there a way to test the serial numbers to see if my outdrive has been replaced or regeared? Why am i so high geared? thanks for any input!

Do you have a serial number for your engine handy?
Sounds like someone had a drive failure and stuck on whatever they could find. a 1.43 won't work.

I don't have a clue what that 1.43 drive was even used on, but you will not get it propped right for your engine.
I was hoping to find out using the serial number, but I can't. Best thing you could do if no one here can find the info is call Volvo customer service and they can tell you what it should have and probably what that drive came from if you have the serial number off the plate on the port side of the drive.
