Was out boating yesterday and noticed mt 1996 VP 5.7 Gi with high idle. It was idling at 1200rpm's and would slam into gear when going forward. Why would that happen all of a sudden?

Thanks in advance, Eric 22' Davis

Re: Volvo Penta intermittently idles too high

Remove the throttle cable and set the idle, then set up the cable so it lets the idle go all the way down to bottom. BTW make sure it still gets wide open throttle when the lever is all the way forward. You can do this with the motor off.
Shifting at 1200 RPM will shorten the gears life...don't leave it that way.

I have the same problem. Linkage seems to hang. If I turn the motor off and restart the idle goes back to normal. Goosing the motor does not reduce fast idle. Have sprayed linkage with WD4 and will let it sit overnight before trying it again. Any advise would be appreciated.

Best advise I could give is to start a new thread of your own. Include your engines full model number and describe your problem and what you have done.
Trust me, your question won't even be noticed after a couple of replies, and then no one will know if the reply is for the original poster or you.
