Volvo Penta just quit

2009 Chaparrel Sunesta 22 with a Volvo Penta 5.0 Gxi was running great all day. At full speed, it just quit. I thought the driver just stopped, but then realized the motor was off. It will not restart. It is on the cusp of starting, but won't start. I was out of town, but my mechanic at home, based on the info I told him and him listening over the phone, suggested the fuel filter gave out. Another at Lake a Jocassee Outdoor Center said it could be an electronic sensor, I didn't understand this one, but they knew they probably weren't going to do the repair. Any thoughts on what it could be? How much should I expect for a fuel pump? Is the fact that it's boat mechanic season going to cost me?

Re: Volvo Penta just quit

You can expect $600 - $700 for a fuel pump - they're on ebay for that. But there are a gazillion things that can cause an engine to quit - and you really haven't provided enough information here for anyone to suggest anything concrete. Suggest you find yourself a good mechanic with proper diagnostic gear to try and figure out the problem. Of course, you can always start spending money replacing parts until you find the one that's actually broken.
