Earlier today I posted a thread on an audible alarm problem. As I mentioned, the mechanic pulled the main connector apart and re-plugged it in and that solved the issue, temporarily. Today I pulled it apart again and now realize that the male (boat side) of the connector plug (with the 10 pins) doesn't quite line up with the female side on the Volvo Penta. The thing just doesn't plug in very far for this reason. I can see that the prior owner has been fooling around with this for years. The rubber around the female (VP) side has been cut numerous times. One can also see that the pins have been pushed off to the side into the rubber in many cases. The pins and receptacles are barely touching when it is plugged in and I suspect that the jarring in heavy seas causes a disconnect. I read some posts on this forum from back in 2011 that discuss this exact issue. The P.O. replaced the 1989 OMC Cobra engine with the Volvo Penta in 2001. In my opinion, it would be a mistake to cut both plugs odd and try to direct wire it because the color(s) of the wires are different. I also see that the one pin that has been pushed off to the side is the wire that goes to the audible alarm. Here are photos of the male (OMC) and female (Volvo Penta). Anybody have any ideas on how to securely wire this thing? I have the wiring diagram from VP but don't know where to get one from a 1989 OMC Cobra.
