I have experienced a problem that I think may originate from the "electrical unit" in the start panel Volvo part nr. 873737(new nr. 22354203), and would like to hear if any of you have experienced the same problem og knows it, before I buy a new part(expensive)
Problem:
I pre-heat(glow) the engine as told in the manual, but the prre-heat indicator does not go on. Then I push the start button, and the engine starts without any problem. But instantly the pre-heat indicator starts to light up, and after 5-10 sek. the battery(generator) indicator starts to flash and the buzzer begins. I can hereafter reset the alarm, and the buzzer stops, but the pre-heat light is still on, and the battery(generator) light still flashes.
The problem began suddently, after 3 hours with the engine running. The first sailtrip this year.
I have done the following:
Checked that the wiring, and specially the ground wiring, is solid connected.
Checked the connection in all the wires in the main cable from the engine to the panel.
Checked that the pre-heating(both of them) recives the right voltage, and that the impedance is ok in both of them.
Checked that the connectors are correctly placed and firmly connectec.
Checked that the diode is only opening one way.
The voltage shown on the meter, is 14,2V when the engine is running, and aprox 12,5V when off, so I believe that the generator is working fine, but I still need to measure the current from the generator.
The only component I think is left to fault, is the electrical unit part number earlier mentioned. Info: The motor and wiring is in very good condition, and is newly renovated 4 years ago by proper workshop.
And this is where I say HEEELP
Do any of you have a old engine like this, and knows it, or have experienced this?
