Volvo Penta Outdrive makes grinding.........

I have a Volvo Penta outdrive and when you put it into gear it grinds forward and backwards and will not move. Any ideas............

Drain the gear lube and check the magnet for metal shavings.

Drain the drive lube into a pan and inspect the lube oil and magnet on the drain plug for metal fragments. If you see metal bits/chuncks and the lube smells burnt you will need to remove the drive for disassembly and inspection.
