Volvo Penta reverse lock mechanism?

hey all, I have been having various issues with reverse on a Volvo Penta 280 on a 32' houseboat. I replaced the reverse lock mechanism last season, and this season it seems like it is working 50% of the time, but sometimes the drive still pops up. the "teeth" on the reverse lock mechanism that grab/lock onto the rod are in good shape. what else could be causing that issue?

for what it's worth, the pitch of the outdrive is a little out of whack ever since i re-did the transom (the bow of the boat plows deeper into the water than it should). not sure if that might have anything to do with it? or just the speed/force/momentum of the boat when i try and put it in reverse? thanks for any thoughts.

Most transom angles are 14*. Did you change it? The stainless button that protrudes from the suspension fork has to move freely and not contact the bottom of the lift system. Which hole is the setting pin in ? I realize with the boat in the water it would be hard to check these suggestions.

i didn't intentionally change the angle of the transom but something ended up not going back together the way it should, because i had to shim the engine mounted a solid 1.5" in order to get everything to line back up. to counter that, the outdrive was set in the pin that allowed it to be tipped up as high as possible. the trim was disabled and there is no trim motor installed ( I believe that is the stainless button you are referring to?)

Just to be clear Volvo 280 drives came with power trim “hydraulic” and just power tilt for beaching. The tilt is not a power trim so which one was removed? As I said before the stainless button has to be free with no binding to move up and down.
As far as the setting pin being in the last hole and the boat tends to run bow down you might be able to add sone aluminum flat stock to the 3 setting pin holes and add a few more holes to get the drive further out.
