Hi there, Does it jump at rest, in the water or on the trailer, while trimming up/down in or out of water?

Have you wiggled wires around to see if you can get it to stabilize?

Is your sensor wire a two or three wire system?

Hi Fun Times,

Yes it does jump at rest. We have it on a trailor now. When this first happened we were out at sea and we took off and the gauge shot up to 50 The faults alarm is showing the triangle, flashing orange and red, Which shut the motor down on us. We were told by a marine eletrician that it was a sensor problem, so we replaced the one we had on which was doing the same thing.

From the sounds of it, you may want to start off with checking, wiggling all your power and ground wires both back at the engine and up under the dash, plus the wires going to the trim gauge for a loose, dirty, corroded terminal connections. Also use a good multimeter to ensure that your getting good 12.6+ volts of power everywhere.

If your engine is shutting down and gauges cannot stabilize, then that is more of a sign of 12v power loss and should be suspected first in my opinion without being there to see it first hand.;)

Is this what you trim gauge looks like?

I don't believe this is going to help you much but you may want to start on page 150, and be sure to see page 158-159,

Just curious, did you or the guy that said you needed a new sending unit install the new sender? Was a service manual used to help guide the install?

Fun times. We have checked all the connections, right back to the computer unit. Our gauge is different to the one you are showing. Our one is around digital one (Volvo one). We ended Up purchasing the sensor and installing it ourselves. But each time we set it it jumps from -7 to 50. The boat is on a trailor when this is happening.
We have spoken to some one at vol power and they have said we need to have it calibrated since it is a brand new sensor.
So tomorrow we will take it to the marine electrician that told us that we needed a new sensor. We have already paid these people $750.00 dollars already to fix this problem. Hopefully getting it calibrated with solve our problems. (We hope).

Do you recall if there is a black box with some red or and green lights mounted on the transom area? If so then yes the guy should be right that the black may need to be calibrated. Even if you don't have the black box, adjustment calibration should still be double checked.

Good luck, let us know what they find.:)
