Update 2: Husband and I ran the boat with muffs today. Ran great, no stalling, might need to fine tune some stuff but we will be taking it out to the lake this weekend to really test it. Really sounded like a different machine today though! Whew! He showed me the linkage that was on wrong and I never even disconnected that part. Lol. Wonder if the guy that sold the boat to our friend jacked it up, couldn't figure it out and decided to sell?
Update: We had a friend (Porsche mechanic) look at it and the accelerator pump linkage was on backwards. Since I assumed the last person who worked on it knew what they were doing, I put everything back on the way it was. My husband will test it later to see if this is the long awaited fix. I will update again at that time.
This is going to be kind of long so I apologize in advance. Quick back ground: bought Glastron from a friend who let said boat sit and rot in the sun for years before covering and winterizing. He owned it for 8 years and never put it in the water. Fast forward to now: the boat starts and idles fine. When you give it throttle, it stalls out around 2000-2500 rpms. I'm not sure what engine we have because we cannot find the numbers. I do know we have a Solex 44PA1 carburetor that I rebuilt a week ago and frankly it wasn't that bad. I believe the motor is an AQ125 based on some stuff our book said. The accelerator pump works, but its not a constant stream (should it be?) it stops right before the engine stalls and the other tube shoots gas into the bowl too. I'm not sure what the other tube is called so I included a pic. View attachment 201047
When we put the rebuilt carb back on we had some loose fittings so we started spewing gas everywhere so I think our pump is fine. I also think it was replaced when our friend owned it. It looks brand new. The distributor looks brand new as well. The timing is right on. Plugs and wires look good. Husband is going to check for cracks in the fuel line that may be letting air into the line. I have also heard it could be an anti siphon valve getting stuck. If our boat has one, where would it be?
We can rev the motor a bunch and get it to hit 4000 rpms but sometimes backfires through the carb and you can hear it sucking air in.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Dana
