I recently purchased a 1998 Four Winns 180 RS with a 4.3 gl engine. The tag on the out drive list Product # 3868720 ratio 1.79 Ser # T0820170. The type space is empty. The drive is marked SX Cobra. I need to order a trim sender, 3 wire, possibly 3863007. Any help determining the model would be appreciated. 180 RS.jpgtrim sender.jpgSX drive plate.jpgsx drive.jpg

There should be some more Volvo Penta printed labels under the engine cover possibly near the 50A fuses near the exhaust riser. It might have a code like 4.3GLPTWR, which I have in my 2000 Four Winns 170 Horizon. In my case the outdrive engraved tag is nearly unreadable.

Thanks AllDodge and Saline Marina, That 3 wire seems to be the part. Brandon @ Shipyard Marine tells me the drive is a SX-C2. Ordered the sender, now to miniaturize my self to get to the connector....

The trim sender only uses 2 wires. Personally, if mine goes out again, I will not bother changing it.

Part number will be 3594989. The other number is the old discontinued part.

The trim sender only uses 2 wires. .

Unless it has the trim limiting system. As that in the picture is a 3 wire sender I would assume it has. The third wire was usually orange in colour and with a rubber insulation which rotted away in a year. Later supplied ones have PVC insulation and last much longer, my present one is 4 seasons old and still good.

As an aside note, the corrosion showing in that area is most likely caused by the stray current from the bare wire.

Never heard of of a non duo prop drive having trim limiting.

There is no current when the ignition is off so highly doubt it could be from a trim sensor.
