When I went to grease the zerk fitting for the gimbal bearing, the zerk fitting pulled out of the housing with my grease gun.

Any way to fix this? Seems to have pulled right out of the threaded tube.

Same thing happened to me! I had to take it in for service the next month so the mechanic replaced it. The stupid thing is plastic and stips out if your gun is tight on the zirk. I think it's pretty easy to fix but you have to order a new one since that one is now stripped out. Turn your drive all the way to the port and you can look in there to see where is attaches.

Ok, after calling 3 different Volvo penta dealers, and 2 of them had no idea what I was talking about, and said no such thing was available, the 3rd dealer gave me the part number:

Tube: 3852564

You can buy them online.

There is a thread somewhere on here that talks about makinging it a perminate zirk by re-threading the hole and putting in a 45deg zirk but you have to remove the gimbal bearing in order to fix it. I figured I would wait until next time I have the bearing repaced.).

Found the link...

Without having to take the outdrive off, How can I remove the old tube and install the new tube?

Thanks!

Does anyone know of a fitting I can get for my grease gun, that has an "easy" release, or a pushbutton release? I installed a new tube, but when I went to grease, it pulled out again. This is a really stupid design

i had this same problem this weekend. i retrofitted the straight grease fitting to one with a 45 degree angle - that way the pulling pressure is against the housing instead of all on the tube.

What a crappy design. I ordered a new tube again. I am going to use a 45 degree angle, but I am also going to epoxy the threads as well too the tube.

How much grease do you pump into the Gimbal?

very much so. i used 3M adhesive/sealant on the tapered end and then permatex #2 on the threads. gave it a day to set before i reapplied the grease gun.

grease it till you've pushed the old grease and can see new grease coming out of the bearing....that is assuming you've pulled the drive for visual.

im not sure if this applies to your application.. but maybe while your replacing it..buy a grease gun tube, thread it into where you would put the zirc, then zip tie the other end with a zirc head on it somewher and that way its right up top of the engine
