Hi Everyone!
I have a 2000 Wellcraft Martinique 3000 cruiser I just bought this past fall. Long story short, needs some TLC. I removed the hydraulic rams (Volvo Penta SX-M) to rebuild the cylinders.

When removing 2 of them, the cylinder end (not the ram side) was severely corroded and very difficult to get off the pin that holds them on the boat. I literally had to use my 12 ton press to get them off! Anyways, not knowing any better, there were (2) metal bushings pressed into the aluminum hole that were VERY corroded.... so I hammered them out (and mangled the hell out of them in the process). I figured I'd remove them, then buy 2 more and press them in, no big deal right? Well, I don't think these metal inserts are for sale anywhere..... I can't afford to replace 2 cylinders at this point, and I'd hate to have to as these metal inserts were really just spacers.

Does anyone know where I can find these? I've attached a photo to better help describe what I am talking about.

Thanks a ton!!!!!

Phil

The thick walled 3/4 copper pipe fits perfectly inside the hydraulic cylinder....... however, its still loose on the pin.....

Other concerns are that the copper is not "strong" enough for that type of use. I did pick up a 3/4" galvanized steel pipe......but again, the pin is pretty sloppy when placed inside it.

This is going to be tougher than I thought......... I emailed Volvo regarding it, but obviously have heard nothing back..... hmmm

Have you thought of a nylon or hard plastic type of sleeve. I would not use the galvanized pipe for fear of corrosion.

Do you think a PVC pipe would be sufficient? I picked up piece of 3/4" PVC pipe..... pin fits PERFECT thru it..... I'd just have to shave it down to fit inside the hydraulic cylinder.

I don't know why it would not. There is not a lot of constant rotation wear between the sleeves and pins anyway, just a few degrees of arc. Even if you need to replace them every couple years, for the price you will be ahead of the game.
