I have a 2005 Volvo Penta 4.3 GL with a SX-M outdrive Product #3868893
1.79 ratio.

I need to change the u-joints. Number on the center of u-joint assembly is 36KV 04W49 3855714. (The V might be an N) I believe the 3855714 are the set of numbers we need. Number stamped on the u-joints are GKN 4F
The keepers are outside keepers

After reading through these forums I would believe I can press out the old
u-joints and put in new ones. I would make sure I draw a line on the shaft from one end to the other so I can put it back together the same way to help with balancing.
I do not have to buy a whole new shaft as Volvo Penta recommends.

My Question is for the Year 2005 SX-M drive what is the U-Joint part numbers that will fit properly with this U-Joint assembly.
I have from this forum
Volvo Penta PN 3860232
Sierra PN 18-6406

Others from this form that may work and able to buy from an auto store.
Spicer 5.4x
Precision 344
Rockford K4
SPICER# 5-1306X
ROCKFORD# K1306
DETROIT# 7260
NEAPCO# 1-6300 / 1-6301
PRECISION (MOOG)# 315G
TRW (FEDERAL MOGUL)# 20030 / 20030P

As you can see I have researched this forum on u-joints for the SX-M drive but I would like to be clear which u-joints will work properly for the 2005 year.

Thank you all for your help in advance and for this forum.

Re: Volvo Penta SX-M U-Joint Replacement

You have the outside keepers on your ujoints as shown in this picture.
Here are some other ujoint part numbers in this thread. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=296325&p=2183168&viewfull=1#post2183168

The above info came from the Volvo Information section in the Adults Only sticky at the top of this forum.

Re: Volvo Penta SX-M U-Joint Replacement

Thanks Don S,
I zoomed in on the u-joint picture, and like you said the u-joints were identical, including the cast numbers and marking to the OEM u-joints. Have a nice evening.
