Little history,
I grew up working on boats. I have built boats, most of my experiance is work boats. I currently own several other boats and I do all my own maintenance. I have always had straight inboards and have no experience with outdrives.
My wife wanted a small Girly boat to run around the creeks with the kids so I bought her a 1999 four winns 170 horizon (3.0L volvo penta).
It is prime fishing right now on the chesapeake and I have spent three weeks straight working on this D@m boat. I have:
1. Milky oil, pressure checked everything had a crack in manifold. Replaced manifold.
2. Changed all filters and added a fuel water separator/filter.
3. Rebuilt carb
4. added an automatic bilge pump
5. motor was running to cool, replace T stat and now its fine
6. Changed water pump (just for the heck of it).
7. Changed outdrive gear oil.
OK went out for my maiden voyage tonight, had wife drive while I enjoyed a few beverages. Almost at my dock and the boat is stuck in forward. wont go in reverse or nuetral. I am just too frustrated to look at it now. I am going to loook at it tomorrow. I was going to stat with pulling the cover off the outdrive and checking the cable at the outdrive end and at the shifter end.
I just wanted to check to see if there is something else I should check or if this has been a common problem and its always the same issue.
Any hints would be appreciated.
Thanks
