1989 volvo penta AQ130. The tilt trim works down and then will come up just part way and stop and you can still hear the tilt trim motor running. Could this still be a relay issue or something internal. It is a screw type drive.
thanks for any help.

AQ130 was not being produced in 1989. Are you sure thats what you've got.

Do you have hydrolic tilt and trim of an electric tilt?

Sorry, My mistake, its my brothers boat and Im just trying to help him on this. Its a AQ131/275. It has a screw type lift which is operated by an electric motor, the motor runs. It will go down and part way back up and then stops but you can still hear the electric motor running and the lower unit just stops and wont come up anymore. I can raise it up by hand so there is nothing in the way. Thanks for any help.

Replace the sensors. The wiring is prone to failure. and... they don't cost that much. If however someone has gone and inspected these recently they may need to be spun 180 degs. That would be the black nub on the inside or under side of the sensor, 1. loosen screws,.. lift off, spin 180 and reinstall. if this doesn't work then purchase new ones.

or clean them up check the ground wires and connections and give them a try again.

good luck,,

Wow.:D I think your in the wrong thread.

When you lift up on the outdrive does the tilt rod then continue to go out of the housing in the transom shield? You may need to tighten up the cover on the tilt assembly. It pushes on a spring and acts as a clutch for the tilt.
#4 in this link. Give it a half turn and see if it helps.

But first confirm the rod continues to come out when the weight is removed or lessened.
